These two styles of cold weather boots confuse most people because
they have several similarities. They’re usually made of waterproof materials and are designed to keep your
feet warm during the winter. However, the snow boots and the winter boots have specific uses which I will
discuss in length with you.
The Specialist
If you live in an area where your snow tends to be on the wet side, you might need a pair of
snow boots. Does your yard accumulate slush, dirty snow, mud and the like? Then this is also
the kind of boot you should be buying for this coming winter. It has rubber bottoms which are skid proof. It
gives the wearer extreme waterproof protection which means that deep inches of snow and sticky mud will not
creep inside your feet because this will definitely keep your feet protected.
These boots usually extend above the ankle to make sure that snow
is kept from trickling inside your feet even if you walked on deep inches of slush. To make this happen, the
upper part is made of leather and sometimes nylon is incorporated. Snow gators are also built in to this boots
for maximum protection from snow falling inside your boots.
However, the snow boots are very heavy and bulky. It can feel like wearing a chain on your feet with every
step. They are also specialized to withstand very arduous winter terrain so they can be very costly.
You must use the correct sock combination so your feet will not be soaked in sweat when wearing.
It gives better waterproofing to keep the snow out but it also prevents moisture from your sweat escaping due to
its rubber sole and thick material. They are recommended to be used by construction workers, farmers, ranchers,
hikers, hunters, skiers, and campers. These people spend a lot of time outdoors in winter. Their feet need maximum
protection.
For General Use
Many would think that the winter boots are cheaper alternatives for the snow boots. This is
incorrect as they have their own use as they’re used for everyday activities during winter like walking, driving,
shopping, commuting, among others. They provide decent waterproofing and can withstand a few inches of snow and
puddles but will not protect your feet from slush. It’s definitely cheaper than the snow boots and also lighter and
more comfortable. It also allows it to be more breathable.
But if you subject the winter boots in a terrain that is suitable only for snow boots. You’ll find yourself ruining your boots and getting your feet wet and dirty. You
should also wear a separate snow gator to keep the snow out of your shoes.
We hope we’ve helped you learn more about winter boots and snow boots, and that you can make a
better decision on which to buy for your toddler.
